A Halifax man fought back tears Wednesday as he stood before a judge and admitted sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Michael Raymond Kobylanski, 36, was scheduled to stand trial in Halifax provincial court on two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference and one of invitation to sexual touching.

Instead, he pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault involving the girl, who was under the age of 16 when she was abused last June. Any information that would identify her is banned from publication.

Judge Bill Digby will sentence Kobylanski on June 4. A presentence report was ordered.

The Crown proceeded by indictment on the charge, so the maximum penalty is 10 years in prison.

Kobylanski, who is represented by Halifax lawyer Lance Scaravelli, remains free on conditions.
